Introduction
This knowledge base article provides a comprehensive overview of Feefo's syndication network, detailing how it facilitates the sharing of product reviews among merchants within the network. Syndication is a powerful tool for merchants looking to enhance their online presence and customer engagement by leveraging the collective wisdom of the network. We'll delve into the concept, potential advantages, limitations, and technical aspects of syndication within the Feefo ecosystem.
What is it?
Syndication within the Feefo network allows multiple merchants selling the same products to share product reviews, including ratings, counts, and review content. This shared data is displayed through the Feefo Reviews API and Feefo Widgets. A unique identifier assigned by Feefo groups identical products, automatically consolidating product reviews across various merchants. This process benefits all network participants by fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
How it works
Merchants have the option to actively opt-in to syndication, which offers advantages within the network even if they lack their own reviews. However, it's important to note that syndication does not display replies from other merchants. The content that gets syndicated includes product ratings, counts, and review content, while imported reviews remain excluded. Other elements of review content, such as product attributes and custom questions, are not incorporated into syndication.
Merchants also have the ability to filter reviews by language using the locale parameter in API requests. Syndication is most effective when used to showcase on-page product and product stars. However, it's worth mentioning that the Feefo merchant page and Feefo Hub do not support syndication. Additionally, reviews submitted through the "enter feedback remotely" API are eligible for inclusion in syndication.
Note: Syndicated content does not include tags or auxiliary tags by default. Syndication does not work for requests using a parent search code parameter.
Reviews API
Merchants enabled for syndication will automatically receive applicable syndicated content within the Reviews API response. No additional parameter is needed to access this content. Syndication is supported in the product reviews API route and the summary/product route. A product_sku must be specified for syndication to take effect. Syndicated review content includes the merchant identifier of another merchant in the response. For the authenticated API, syndicated review content is included in the response, but authenticated objects are not returned for merchants not directly related to the request structure.
Product Ratings API
The Product Ratings API allows merchants to enable or disable syndicated reviews using the &syndication parameter (set to true or false). A product_sku is required for syndication to occur. When the &syndication parameter is excluded or set to false, the count and rating returned by the API include content within the merchant's account structure. When set to true, the API includes content from the merchant's account structure and any relevant products in the syndication network. Other skus related to the specified product's syndication network will also be returned, with the same count. If a product_sku has no review content but belongs to a syndication network with reviews, the API will return that network's rating and count.
Conclusion
Feefo's syndication network is a powerful tool that enables merchants to leverage shared product reviews, assisting consumer research and improving KIPs. By understanding the intricacies of syndication, merchants can maximise its potential for enhancing their customer engagement and product visibility within the Feefo ecosystem.
